shutterbuglady > Meet Isabel, the sea serpent. She's made entirely of driftwood, except for her conch shell teeth and coconut eyes. She's been a fixture in Sandbridge Beach, Virginia (a small, quiet family beach community about 20 minutes south of Virginia Beach) for as long as I can remember. Her head is part one of three of the sculpture. See my architecture gallery for the rest of her. Taken June 2008.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't include a picture this blah. But it has special meaning to me. That's our little oceanfront cottage in the foreground, built in 1969 (we've owned it since 2002). Looming over us in the background are what we call the Monstrosity Condos, completed just last year. Only a tiny fraction are seen in this picture. The quiet community of Sandbridge Beach, located 20 minutes south of Virginia Beach, used to be a handful of owner-occupied homes dotting the shoreline. Now we have a several sets of condos, McMansions everywhere you turn, and even a blinking (pun intended) traffic light!

Harrumph.
