Allow me to introduce you to the Twinklebelles of the Glam Glitter Extractor, a division of the Tinselorium. From left to right are Sadie, Kadie, and Roxie. Each is preparing for her duties with a visit to the salon, while simultaneously reading their respective handbooks on Glitter, Glimmer, and Glitz.

View at largest size for best detail.

Whimsy reigned supreme (pun intended!) in this year's Macy's windows. :-)

This image may look familiar, as it's similar to one of Macy's Christmas windows from last year that I posted earlier this month. It's an aerial view depicting Herald Square enjoying the rewards of having mechanical snow-cloud makers passing overhead. Did you know that snowflakes have their own "Flake Form Distributor" and then they're freeze-dried and bubble-wrapped? Another Dr. Seuss-type whimsical image.

Have so many of these that need processing, including a Glam Glitter Extractor, a Tinselorium, members of the Beardo Brigade, an Octopusilex Arm Coordinator, and a Snazzilizer Base Supply. ;-) Is anyone bored by them yet or shall I keep posting them one by one?

With the exception of "Miracle on 34th Street" which is a permanent holiday display, this year Macy's based their Christmas window displays on the imaginative mind of Dr. Seuss. More nonsensical than logical, the windows were a colorful, magical mechanical world unto themselves, delighting children of all ages. They're best viewed at the largest size for more detail.

This one demonstrates how happiness is "manufactured". Note the Belly Laugh Jelly, Awe Extractor, and Whoosh Master Cooker.

I opted to leave in the various reflections, simply because they seemed to add even more sparkle to an already eye-popping display. :-)

More New York vacation photos from the week prior to Christmas. Our hotel at 34th Street & 8th Avenue is located diagonally across the street from One Penn Plaza, which most of the time appears as a rather non-descript solid black 57-story 750-foot tall rectangle reaching for the sky. I just happened to look out our 40th floor window late in the day and saw this gorgeous sunset reflected in the mirrored glass exterior, adding ribbons of color to an otherwise bland edifice.

I deliberately framed the image to include the northern side, which was already experiencing evening shadows; a snippet of a shorter building to the south; and portion of the robin's egg blue sky still visible to the east.

Thank you for yesterday's train ornaments comments! One day I hope to have a whole tree decorated in nothing but trains. Well, and maybe a kitty or two for good measure. :-)

Besides cats & kittens, something else I'm passionate about are trains, especially classic ones like these Christmas ornaments convey. The one on the left I purchased two years ago while visiting a friend in North Carolina. The one on the right I purchased just last week at Macy's while in New York -- never once realizing until I got home and compared them that they're nearly identical!

At least you can't accuse of me of being inconsistent! :-)

A mouse conducts the music for a performance of "The Nutcracker" in a Lord & Taylor's Christmas window display in New York City.

Thank you to everyone who continues to comment on my photos, despite my inability to respond in kind due to lack of both mental and physical stamina.

Hope everyone is enjoying a peaceful holiday.

Do you see your name on Santa's list? I was shocked to discover mine *after* uploading to Smugmug! Never noticed it until just now. LOL! This is a Lord & Taylor Christmas window display from a week ago.

My husband is now the sick one in the family, having tested positive for mono while I was on vacation. And my son is suffering with a bad chest cold. Our Christmas will be postponed for a bit until everyone's back to normal, whatever the heck that is! One of these days, I hope to get back to viewing and commenting on your beautiful daily offerings.

Hope everyone here has a safe and blessed holiday.

This was the view outside our 40th floor room at the New Yorker Hotel one week ago today. The white blur near the center of the picture is actually an enormous snowflake floating by. The snow I ordered especially for my birthday that day was delivered on time and lasted until midnight, making it absolutely perfect!

Thank you for all the well-wishes (again!). It's all I can do to upload a picture each day, let alone take new ones. Normally photography is therapeutic for me, but I've been too zapped lately to do much of anything. Even during our trip I only took 560 pictures (not counting the ones I deleted) which is very few for me.

So I may have to bore you for a while with more vacation photos -- Christmas window displays, architectural details, views from our room, etc.

Daisy and friend relaxing on the back of the love seat in our picture window.

Am back home in Virginia now and had hoped to catch up on comments today but am way beyond exhausted. Ever since Wednesday night's food poisoning and the mono I'd had prior to leaving for New York, things just haven't been quite the same...

A gingerbread house at Lord & Taylor's in New York is carefully and meticulously decorated for Christmas. Can you find the kitty cat???

View at largest possible size, because there's a lot of detail to be seen.

There are plenty more of these window display pictures. I just need to take the time to process them.

We're sadly heading home today on the train. It's a 7-hour ride, but I'd much rather do that than drive or fly!

We woke up yesterday to lots of snow and ice, which essentially lasted all day, with accumulations of up to several inches. The Empire State Building completely disappeared in all the snow and fog, as did most of the skyscrapers visible from our 40th floor room at the New Yorker Hotel.

Thank you for all the well-wishes. Am feeling much better now. We'll be leaving tomorrow :-( having accomplished very little of our to-see list. Guess it will have to wait for our next trip!

Taken Wednesday at Lord & Taylor's in New York City. I even included a kitty cat just for Andrea. :-)

Have spent the last 24 hours recovering from a hideous case of food poisoning. Not a fun way to spend a vacation!

P.S. -- it's snowing like crazy here! Expecting 3-5 inches for the day. Yay!

P.P.S. -- Am working on a New York December 2008 gallery if anyone is interested. Will be adding lots more pictures during the coming weeks as they're processed.

Another of this year's Christmas window displays at Macy's in New York City. In the movie "Miracle on 34th Street" the woman pictured above is stunned to discover that if Macy's doesn't have what their customers want, they'll gladly send them to their competitors. The picture accompanying the Herald Tribune article is of Edmund Gywnn and Natalie Wood from the movie.

I was especially pleased with how clearly this photograph turned out. You can almost feel the roughness of the lady's wool coat and smell the ink of the newspaper!

Hope no one minds me posting numerous holiday window displays... They're my favorite thing about Christmas in New York City!

One of Macy's 2008 Christmas window displays illustrating the Santa beard-pulling scene from the classic movie "Miracle on 34th Street".
