The Hart One Room School, circa 1855-1860, just south of Frankenmuth, Michigan.

We're finally home from our 3-week jaunt across West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana where internet service was hit or miss at best. Looking forward to processing these 3,500+ photos and seeing what I've missed on the Dailies!

Thanks for all the comments on my dragonfly shot from yesterday!

Prepare for Takeoff

While passing through Delaware, Ohio yesterday on our way back to Virginia, we stopped at Blue Limestone Park, which is centered around an old limestone quarry. This dragonfly lit on the butterfly bushes surrounding the pond just long enough for me to snap a few shots, and then he was off again.

I'm especially pleased with how this turned out. Am considering upgrading at Christmas to a DSLR, but in the meantime, I'm enjoying pushing my point & shoot to its limits by taking shots like this. :-)

I have about 3,500 photos to process, so August will be very busy. Hope y'all won't tire of looking at vacation pictures!

The Corner Cottage, circa 1899

One of the many beautiful lakefront homes in Mackinac Island, Michigan. This was taken Monday, along with approximately another 1,000 or so photos. :-) Our internet connection is pitifully slow at the hotel, which is why there have been no uploads from me in a few days.

Am very much looking forward to creating a gallery just for this trip!

Jim's daughter Kandra and her fiance Ken at their wedding rehearsal on Wednesday evening. If you look at this in a larger size, you'll notice that they're both sporting interesting buttonwear. And you've gotta love the paper plate bouquet!

The water wheel at Linden Mill Pond in Linden, Michigan. Silly me went off and forgot my camera for the wedding rehearsal in this gorgeously scenic place, so had to borrow Jim's little point & shoot again. I discovered that it doesn't like distance shots; either that, or I had it on the wrong setting, which is entirely possible. LOL!

Thank you for all the comments on the "vintage" pets photo from 2 days ago!

Didn't have a moment to pick up the camera today, so am posting this view taken Sunday of Sturges Hall at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Tomorrow will be non-stop as well, but am hoping to have a bit of camera time at some point.

Wishful Thinking

From left to right: Baxter, Bella, and Rocko, three of Jim's daughter's pets. This was taken late yesterday afternoon through the front screen door. Their expressions remind me of the old song "Please Release Me, Let Me Go". :-)

Before leaving Columbus, Ohio yesterday afternoon, we spent a few hours exploring German Village near downtown. Rose of Sharon bushes were everywhere. The pretty pink blooms against the blue sky caught my eye.

Later in the day we stopped in Delaware, Ohio so that I could take a few shots of Ohio Wesleyan University, mainly for its Gothic stone buildings. Eventually I'll have a gallery just for this 3-week road trip.

We stayed in Columbus, Ohio last night. Walking back to the hotel after supper, I just happened to look up and saw this lovely scene. For anyone familiar with the area, this is St. James Lutheran on Trabue Road. Taken on the fly with Jim's little Fuji FinePix camera.
